I would be interested in hearing some specific examples to support this claim. As a counterexample, I would offer the existence of the entire file access wordset. The decimal point issue does not imply "no interest in the outside world". On the contrary, this issue has been debated at length. In the absense of the extensive current practice for decimal point meaning double number, the "outside world" considerations would have easily carried the day.
