[net.movies] Short review: THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Meyer) (10/29/85)

This is probably the most enjoyable movie I've seen since
CREATOR, though I should comment that I saw it in 70MM, which is
a necessity for a film of this size. Basically, it is a kid's
adventure film in the old Disney style -- but it's a VERY WELL DONE
one. Beautiful photography, good acting, the first soundtrack from
James Horner in years that hasn't stolen something from his Trek
scores (to be fair, his music for NATTY GANN is outstanding and
moving in the right places), and a great wolf. Yeah, we're talking
super-intelligent, Lassie-like, more-empathy-than-you-can-
throw-a-stick-at wolf. He seems to enjoy tasting sexual
offenders, which I find commendable. And yeah, I sniffled a lot at
the end of the film, too.

Take the kids to this one (warning, there is some swearing in it.
The 'S' word, though I think it's deserved and quite natural, given
the plot situation). More importantly, take yourselves to see this
one -- odds are, you haven't seen a film like this since you were a
lot younger. You deserve a bit of well-done nostalgia...

                                "Don't embarrass us."
                                "Have I ever?"
