[analogy of car problem complaints to Basis]
Basis is not a product designed for a software company's marketing managers,
nor is it a final product. So far, the product is only on a drawing board, and
the designers are asking for advice on what should be added/removed. All
comments are considered.
The next step, submitting it as a dpANS document, is analogous to building a
full-scale model. This model is then to be test-driven by anyone and everyone
interested, to see where the problems are or where improvements could be made.
Test-drivers are asked to test it to the limits (and beyond); to try to make it
fail, so that the problems can be corrected before manufacturing begins.
Everyone was welcomed--and encouraged--to kibitz on the drawing board design
(or to join the design team). We are all welcome--and asked/encouraged--to
test-drive the test model and to send in our complaints/comments.
If you wait until all of that is past and pick up a car in the showroom, and
then want to complain that the chrome-plating on the radio irritates you, you
have only yourself to blame.
ps. Thanks John. That was a good analogy (after corrections). :)

I thought that readers of this newsgroup might be interested in the following notice to car buyers from a major car manufacturer: ===================================================================== TO ALL COMPLAINING CUSTOMERS We have received complaints about "funny noises" and "bad ride" in our latest cars. We cannot deal with vague complaints. If, for example, you feel that there is a defect in our suspension system -- please identify it specifically. Be precise in stating exactly what is wrong with the suspension system, and include plans on how it should be redesigned. Unless you do this, we will ignore your complaint. (We will also ignore you if your proposed redesign is not, in every way, compatible with details of our manufacturing process -- so please make sure to study this first.) I'm sure you realize that if we spent our time listening to uninformed car owners it would impede our ability to get new cars to market as quickly as possible. ===================================================================== John J Wavrik jjwavrik@ucsd.edu Dept of Math C-012 Univ of Calif - San Diego La Jolla, CA 92093
