Yes. I think Gary ported a message describing the contents of
this file. The last release I saw was SMILEY34.ZIP from about
 2/89.

 Dan,
 .
 > is smiley different than what is distributed in the fpc-x.zip files?
 .
The answer is currently "yes." But I have sent the Silicon Valley F-PC
group a copy of this new version of SMILEY.ZIP, and they may soon begin
to distribute it instead of the old version.
The new version is worth getting; it is considerably improved, and it
includes Mike Sperl's optimized line drawing algorithms.

Ah, Frank you got bit by the nasty mailman. We've had a few of those and have
tried to correct the situation, but it still keeps happening. We are in Suite
300, and if the address doesn't have that it sometimes gets returned like
your's did. I'm sorry if I have not put that on address I have posted, but we
are trying our best to get the mail delivered anyways. Try adding the Suite

At least you got it back. ;-z

These programs outline a special software/hardware project undertaken recently
by the Houston, Texas chapter of FIG, to simulate an RCA 1802/6 microprocessor
while creating project boards to run FIG-Forth. F83 was used for the
simulator, running on an IBM PC. The hardware resources of the 1802 and 1806
were simulated in Forth. A straightforward interface program was designed to
allow loading/running/debugging real 1802/6 programs on the PC environment.
Eventually, the 1802 FIG-Forth (which is included) was loaded and run on the
simulator. Alberto Pasquale, a long-time FIG member in Houston, wrote up this
project in Vol.1 No.3 of the ACM SIGForth Newsletter. Contact "P.FRENGER" for
SIGForth details.

FIGGY BAR of 7 June 1990. The question of the night : When an implemen-
tation of ANS Forth becomes available for your system will you use it, roll
  your own, don't know, don't care ?.....
This lead to several opposing views of the TC's actions, the BASIS as it now
exists, and view(s) of the future standard. The discussion between Robert
Berkey and Dennis Ruffer over decisions made regarding division was
  especially involved.
IF YOU HAVE ANY interest in the future of Forth, this is another 'must

on ES Mainframe (IBM 360/370 compatible) under OS and CMS, SM-11420

ms-dos making it operable under all current Soviet architectures.

There is a lot of confusion about BBL, Roedy Green's public domain
32-bit Forth and Abundance, the Business support system that runs
under BBL. Many think BBL is huge !!! - NOT true. Here is BBL in
executible form, having been compiled on a 286 without a math co-
processor. It extracts to 27065 bytes. By comparison F83Y bare bones
kernel is 30080 bytes, eForth is 15104 bytes and Sergei Baranoff's
 Beta is 14998 bytes.
There are no docs with this posting. They are available as file 2101

The FIGGY BAR of 13 Sep 1990. The question of the night, "There has been
a lot of activity on ForthNet regarding Object Oriented Programming/Object
Oriented Forth. Do you have an interest in these discussions ? Why ? Why
not ?" occupied the brunt of this FIGGY. Also discussed was Dick Miller's
'To dos or not to dos' conference on 9/20/1990 and a possible BIG surprise
at that time. Forth vs C from the programmers' and managers' perspectives.

gave way to a more thorough look at what the interface

it can be safely argued Jef Raskin is one of the ranking

asynch driver and Craig Lindley's window program. It has a file handler
and file capture and printer re-direction of input serial data. There
are also words to change serial port and Baud parameters.

PC-PDP1.ZIP enables using a PC to replace the ASR35 TTY unit
normally used to do PDP8 input/output. The program is written
in F-PC v3.5. It uses Craig Lindley's windowing utility and
Ray Duncan's asynch driver from P/C-Forth. While not many will
find the original application useful, the program does have
a number of ideas and useful words. This version includes the
file async.seq which I forgot to include in PC-PDP.ZIP. If anyone
is interested using the program with a PDP8, I can supply the details
on the hardware I used to interface the PC RS232 port to the PDP8
 tty I/O port.

STP1.ARC is a very direct port of Laxen & Perry F83 to the Atari ST, in
position-independent form. Includes source, metacompiler, and executables,
just like the original CP/M and MS-DOS versions.

STP2.ARC is a modified set of extension files for Atari F83 in STP1.ARC, as I
prefer to use it. Duplicates much of STP1.ARC, but adds a full screen-
oriented editor and a 2-across by 4-down block listing utility.

STP3.ARC has some useful utilities for the Atari ST port of F83, including
documentation for the 68000 assembler, buffered file access words (getc, putc,
etc.), elementary access to GEM graphics, color Mandelbrot display, and
complete source to make F83 a well- behaved but VERY dangerous GEM desk
accessory.

(The ARC format is compatible with several programs, including most MS-DOS
ARC's. I can upload an Atari PD ARC if anyone needs it.)

hardcopy. A transmit buffer can be created during receive mode, and

I had problems with the executable files, also. When I examined them as a
hex dump, I found that they begin with some kind of "header" or "prelude" not
recognized by me or my ST. They become executable if you just remove the few
dozen bytes up to (but not including) the TOS "magic word" hex 601A.
(Presumably experienced Forth users can do such things easily; if its not easy
to get corrected files, I can upload my results after XMAS.)

The text files also have such headers, but text editors probably won't mind.
By the way, although the source is included, you'll want to check the articles
in recent Forth Dimensions (July/August and September/October, I believe) for
helpful documentation.

32 bit eForth implementation for 80x8x IBM-PC/XT/AT and clones.
Fully optimized code with lots of utilities.
 Generated by metacompilation. Metacompiler included.
This implementation contains many eForth code examples which are
very useful for people who want to develop applications based
 on eForth

Authors: Bill Muench and C. H. Ting
 Improved assembly macros.
 Improved formatting and comments.
Self-extracting compressed file. Type EFORTH86 to extract the files.
eForth is a small, portable Forth model intended to be implemented
on many differently CPU's. This implementation serves as the basis
 of this mode.
'Implemetation Guide of eForth' is available from Offete Enterprises,
 1306 S. B St, San Mateo, CA (415)574-8250.*s

eForth for 8051 assembled using MASM.
Code fully tested on MicroMint BCC52 Single Board Computer.
Self-extracting Compressed file. Type EFORTH51 to extract files.
This serves as an example on how to implement eForth for a CPU
 other than 80x8x under MASM.
Code is not optimized. Runs slowly because of dictionary searches.
Use will have to optimize it for real applications.
Great tool to learn Forth internals.

 Author: Richard E. Haskell
 Submission: C. H. Ting
eForth model ported to 68000, tested on Motorola ECB system.
Source code in MASM form, assembled code is then converted to
Motorola s-records which can be downloaded to ECB board.
Code conversion and terminal utilities are included.
 C. H. Ting contributed a source file including macros which swap
the byte order so that MASM generates the correct 68000 code.

This is the files from William H. Payne's "Embedded Controller Forth for the

interest as the X3J14 Technical Committee moves from BASIS effort

This is the complete source for Yerk, formerly Neon, a product sold by Kriya

the Macintosh. Typing Tutor III and IV were written in it. It has now been
released into the public domain. Bob Loewenstein of University of Chicago

Toolbox support. Will require a lot of study, but it's
 worth it.

This is the transcript for the FIGGY BAR held on March 21, 1991. We
started off by discussing the scheduling of guests, then moved into
nucleus sizes. Irving showed up to talk about the SigForth
conference, and we moved on to database programs. Irving tried to
talk Giles into writing an online acronym dictionary. We got into
object oriented programming languages and big number routines and
how they apply to MUMPS. Moving from there to sparse arrays we
 closed off the evening.

member. My personal recommendation is to let them get on with it. It may not
be perfect, but it is closer than we have ever been before. It is time to see
some implementations.

This code gives a visual tour of Zafar Essak's 1986 FORML Conference
Proceedings paper, "Turtles Explore Floored Division" (cited as an example of
the usefulness of truncated-to-zero division). No programming required! Many
variations of turtle-drawn circles appear, using different division
algorithms, rounding adjustments, and implementation approaches. The most
significant compares a turtle-circle drawn with unrounded truncated-to-zero
division alongside a "high precision" turtle-circle, showing a greater than
20% error in the length of the diameter. This code requires an EGA color
adaptor for an IBM-AT. Software required is F-PC, and the code has been
tested on F-TZ 3.21 and F-PC 3.50. To run from the DOS command line, type: F-
PC MKTURTLE OK CLS BYE

I just received the latest F-PC package this weekend, and will upload it asap.
It is v3.55 and should contain the latest SMILEY update in it. I will check

try to convey where we are today in regard to testing Forth. Where
the previous paper tried to point fingers to where we are going,
this paper will focus on where we have been. I have shown you some
of the theory, now let's look at some reality in action.
