Workshop on Compiling and Optimizing Object-Oriented Programming Languages at OOPSLA'87, Monday October 5, 1:30-4:30pm We will discuss any aspect of compiling and optimizing o-o languages, including those that are common with other languages, such as how to deal with garbage collection and multiple representations of numbers, as well as more specialized topics such as multiple inheritance and selectively binding message sends at compile-time. Use of type systems for optimization and tools for aiding optimizations or dealing with optimized code are also welcome topics. If you are interested in attending, send a one or two page position statement (e-mail is fine) to me at the address below. The original due date for these statements was August 1, but I have not seen the workshop advertised, so that date is unreasonable. If you send me a statement by August 15, I will still be able to make the September 1 deadline for notifying you of your participation. Please feel free to apply even if you are only planning to start work in this area but have not yet done so. While those active in the area will be given higher priority, there will probably be room for everyone who is interested. Ralph Johnson, Dept. of Comp. Sci., 240 Digital Computer Lab., 1304 W.
