[net.music] Dead Tapes

cliff@unm-cvax.UUCP (07/07/84)

Is there enough interest to warrant posting tape info to the entire net?
It would be possible to use a mailing list, but with all the sites that
would have to pass the mail through, posting might be more effective if
many people are interested. I know that this does not really fit into
net.music, but theres no official net.dead.

Here's my background: I bought a D6 with plans to patch into other peoples
decks for the New Year's 83/84 concerts. I soon realized that I don't trust
other people enough to depend on strangers for mikes, so I bought my own.
After a little unpleasant episode with crowd noise, I bought a pair of
shotguns too. I have sucessfully taped the following concerts:
12/{23,30,31}/83, 4/7/84, 6/{9,10,13,14,21,23,24,26,27}/84. I have taken
the master tapes, and editted them into "sub-masters," all of whom use
Dolby B, NR (the masters are in B or C) and I have tryed to even up the
left/right balance, and bring up low signals to acceptable levels (the
tapes done in C can be raised without fear of introducing too much tape
noise). I haven't yet made the submasters of the last 5 concerts, I hope
to have them done within a couple of weeks, each tape takes much time to
do correctly. I keep a log of the information on line in the following format:

Cal Expo, Sacramento CA 6-9-84 2xNak300/CP4->D6->ZX-C90

  2 Iko Iko 2 Deal
197 Feel Like a Stranger
298 Loser 214 I Need a Miracle
404 Cassidy Bertha
489 Dupree's Diamond Blues	405 Playin' in the Band
575 C.C. Ryder China Doll
				    Drums
Iko damaged Severely, Dead
had P.A. problems and I Jerry's mike was cutting in and out
didn't keep good control of	of Loser, so I fade into where he
my levels, i.e. bass starts over
saturation

In addition to the concerts I have taped myself, I have a few others that
I have traded. I don't keep quite as accurate notes on the other tapes,
but I should have a list that at least gives some sort of sound quality
rating. I would like to trade with people that have fairly high quality
tapes. What sort of interest is out there? If it is marginal, the best
bet might be to handle the whole thing through U.S.nail, since we will have
to exchange tapes like that anyway. If that is the case, it might be nice
to standardize list formats (although sound quality ratings will always
vary).
