[comp.lang.smalltalk] Digitalk on the net?

folta@tove.umd.edu (Wayne Folta) (05/03/89)

I just got Smalltalk/V today, and their documentation lists electronic
addresses on most nets known to mankind, except this one. Can we
talk to Digitalk here? (I know nothing about Smalltalk and OOP, but this
is my first exercise, as I am sending a *message* which the Digitalk
*object*, if any, should know how to handle.)

I have had Smalltalk V for 1 1/2 years now and I don't have any info
on electronic addresses. What document is this in?

If you are referring to my earlier article asking for an Internet address,
I did mention that they had other electronic addresses. They are:

   CompuServe 71361,1636 (that's 71361,1636)
   AppleLink X0954 (X0954)
   BIX BARBARAN (BARBARAN)
   GEnie DGOLDMAN (DGOLDMAN)

Notice no Internet address, hence my query. These addresses were included on
a letter that was stuffed in my Smalltalk/V Mac book.

Digitalk would probably prefer if you used the AppleLink address DIGITALK
instead of X0954. X0954 is one of their personal accounts.

From the internet, you can send a message to them by the address
  digitalk@applelink.apple.com

I believe that applelink addresses can be reached from the net, by sending
to name@applelink.apple.com. Thus Digitalk becomes X094@applelink.apple.com

If anyone uses this successfully, let us know.

I tried to reach DGOLDMAN on GEnie without any luck at all. Has anyone
had more luck on the other numbers? I had heard that CompuServe had some bug
fixes on it that you can get from DigiTalk for $10. Will they allow it to be
copied and sent over Usenet?
