We are currently looking at using smalltalk as a development environment for implementing a large blackboard architecture 'expert system' for use as part of the control system for an autonomous vehicle. Smalltalk is under consideration for a number of reasons but mainly because ; 1. An OO paradigm fits the design of a blackboard architecture fairly well. 2. The development and modularity allows extem`nsions to the program whilst still maintaining good design practice. 3. The Smalltalk system can be used as the basis for the design validation if the final system was written in another language. Has anyone out there used Smalltalk in anger for this type of project, for blackboard systems in general, for applications requiring realtime processing and/or development/design prototype for subsequent validation. Please email/mail with any responses and I will post a summary if there is suitable response. Notification of current groups, contact names and projects are of great interest (information will only be released if the originator requests it) but any articles, known work etc or even just comments are more than welcome.
