[comp.lang.smalltalk] User Defined Primitives

boissier@irisa.irisa.fr (franck boissiere) (12/11/89)

Hi there,

I have been using the ability to add my own primitives in Smalltalk-80
to enable to acces the outside world. It works fine for me. I am now
willing to give the outside world the ability to get a hook in Smalltalk.

I am considering the use of the signals interrupts in unix (BTW I am using
Smalltalk-80 V2.5 on Sun 3 and Sparcstations). The only way to get into
the smalltalk image would be to use the UPpostEvent() function or to establish
a smalltalk process polling for incoming requests.

Has anyone tried this kind of things before?

Are there any other possibilities?

Thanks in advance

Franck
