[net.movies] The Marioka Sisters, and Ran?

sms@uscvax.UUCP (Stephen M. Sutor) (12/21/85)

*** For this I gave up Sub-urban Living ???

Being disappointed with the current crop of American Movies
( Jewl of the Nile, Spies like Us, ), I saw the Marioka Sisters.
This captures much of the classic beauty of Kyoto/Osaka, set in 1938,
with traditional Japanese Virtues of a old wealthly family meeting the pre-war
industrial world. I recommend it highly, if you can find it. It is showing
at only one theater in LA. What other movies by Ichikawa are worth finding?

My other hope for the holiday season is Ran, which I missed this summer
in Tokyo, but is opening on 12/25. Has anyone on the net seen it yet?
Why can't Hollywood make movies that are worth seeing?
