Two capsule reviews: _Jewel_of_the_Nile_ -- A sequel does need not have the same approach as its predecessor, provided something else replaces it. Sadly, only the former holds true in this film. Though Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas, and Danny DeVito all give satisfying performances in their roles from the 1984 sleeper _Romancing_the_Stone_, the script unfortunately falls into too many cliches, sags, and implausibilities to allow it to stand up. Too bad -- I really looked forward to this one. (2 out of 4) _A_Chorus_Line_ -- This is a show meant pretty much for the stage and not the movies; much of its original device was in its realism, an illusion so well sustained that the audience was not sure what was scripted and what was spontaneous. In the movies, this is of course impossible. Another problem with this one is that, for a reason I don't understand, musical numbers aren't given the screen through their duration (we cut away, and come back to them). However, such an impressive and sensitive script makes this adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic a good bet for holiday entertainment.
