Recently, our department bought Smalltalk/v286, Digital's 80286 msdos-version of smalltalk/v. St/286 makes use of the protected mode of the 80286-processor. Some clones, however, have problems with switching modes. For testing whether a PC has problems swithing, a testprogram is included in the package, test286. A number of options can be tried, and if your PC boots or hangs after testing, you won't be able to use St/286. On some of our PC's the program runs flawless, but on some it doesn't. My question now: If ST/286 does not work on a particular computer, what to do ? Just say, Ah, what a pity... or are there ways of getting 'round the problem ?
