I have just installed ParcPlace ObjectWorks for Smalltalk-80 on
my 386, 25MHz machine with 4MB of RAM, ATI Wonder 512 video card
and 6MB swap file (no coprocessor). I have SmartDrive installed
with 2048,128 settings.
Now the problem. I used to the speed with which Smalltalk-80 runs
on MAC II (with 5MB RAM and coprocessor) and I am disappointed with
system performance under Windows. It is much slower, though my PC
is generally faster than MAC II.
Can anybody give me some advice on how to setup the system to speed
up its performance with respect to ObjectWorks. I do not worry about
other applications, since they run fast and I could sacrifice some
of their performance if only Smalltalk do better.
