If you are buying Smalltalk-90 as a development vehicle, $3500 is the cost of one engineer for one month. If you can't recoup that vis a vis X Windows you are doing something wrong. If you are buying it as a delivery vehicle you will soon be involved in the process of NEGOTIATION with ParcPlace, during which most businesses find it in their best interest to grant DISCOUNTS to volume customers.
