[comp.lang.smalltalk] Debugging the debugger in Smalltalk/V Mac...

wilde@boulder.Colorado.EDU (Nick Wilde) (10/23/90)

And once again I turn to net.wizards in search of that elusive newsgroup
eternal.truth :)

I'm a Smalltalk "newbie" attempting to learn something about Smalltalk
using Smalltalk V on a Mac. I've been going through the tutorial stuff
without much problem, until today...

Chapter 8 deals with the debugger - to paraphrase the manual "evaluate this
code, watch the walkback window pop up - click on the 'debug' button, watch
this wonderful debug window pop up"

I do like I'm told like a good little ignoramus. Evaluate the code - get a
walkback window. So far so good. Click on the "debug" button - get the
wonderful 'Debug" window - What the #$%*? I get the debug window, allright,
followed by another walkback window !! Whats going on here ? How do I
debug the debugger ? What did I do wrong ?

Some information for anyone who can help -
Title of the 2nd walkback window "message not understood -arguments"
Info in the walkback window:

UndefinedObject(Object)>>error:
UndefinedObject(Object)>>doesNotUnderstand:
Debugger>>tempList
ListPane>>update
ListPane(SubPane)>>update:
[] in Debugger(Object)>>changed:
OrderedCollection>>do:
Debugger(Object)>>changed:
Debugger>>walkback:
Debugger>>Debug

Hope that means something more to somebody than it does to me. After all,
I'm only learning :)

Many thanks for any assistance !

-Nick
P.S. Reply by e-mail, please. I don't usually read this newsgroup (although
maybe I should start:))
