I'm currently deciding between the purchase of Smalltalk/V or Objectworks, and I'd like to hear from people who've used both concerning the relative merits of the two systems. I've already found out the facts, such as portability, system requirements, and price; now I need some real-user opinions. In particular, how does the support (phone, bboard, etc.) compare between the two companies? How good is each system's documentation? Smalltalk will be used in developing a graphical user interface -- for Smalltalk/V portability, are the necessary changes between Mac and PC Windows simple? (i.e., could you write a program to make the source code changes?) Is one system's programming environment better/friendly than the other's? Is it easier to make stand-alone applications with one system vs the other? How about creating graphical user interfaces? Forgive me is these are FAQs, but I only have access to the last few messages on this bboard. To help people gauge the level of their responses, I've been programming in ParcPlace's Smalltalk for about 3 years. The purchase decision I'm facing is for someone who will be just starting in Smalltalk. irv ---------------------- Irvin Katz Educational Testing Service katz@confidence.princeton.edu --
