[comp.lang.smalltalk] Object-Oriented Book Series - Call for authors

bertrand@eiffel.UUCP (Bertrand Meyer) (04/03/91)

Prentice-Hall announced at the last TOOLS the launching of a new
book series, the Prentice-Hall Object-Oriented Series,
for which I will serve as series editor.

This is a joint venture of Prentice-Hall International (UK)
and Prentice-Hall USA, thus ensuring wide international
distribution through the P-H worldwide network.

The intent is not to include all O-O books published
by Prentice-Hall. Instead, we are aiming initially
at a rather small number of books, with a strong emphasis
on quality and originality. The series will include textbooks
as well as surveys, research works, books describing
specific languages, reports on new scientific developments
and descriptions of industrial applications. Of particular
interest are books describing the use of O-O ideas to novel
applications and original problems.

Among the advantages for authors are:

- The prestige of the Prentice-Hall label.
- A fast publication process.
- In-depth refereeing (at least three referees per book).
- A label of quality.
- A competitive royalty rate.

It is the aim of the Series to become the reference library
of top-quality publications for both developers and users of
object-oriented methods, languages, tools and ideas.

If you are currently working on a book in this area,
or have been thinking about doing so, you may wish to
consider the Prentice-Hall Object-Oriented Series.

The best material to send us is a prospectus:
a document of a few pages which talks *about* the
projected book, its intended audience, its scope, how
it compares to existing work, the planned publication schedule,
the author's background etc. This may be complemented by sample
material if available.

If you have a book project but feel it is too early to write
a prospectus, you may still wish to sound us off with
whatever partial description of the project is available.

Practical details (contracts etc.) will be handled by the following
two Prentice-Hall executives:
