We have used Xerox Dandelion lisp machines in the past and now we are considering new machines for a new project. This new project is to be written in Common Lisp using Portable Common Loops or the Common Lisp Object System and some kind of X-window-based package like the Common Lisp User Environment or Common Windows. (The purpose is so the software is portable, because in the end it should run on whatever low-end machine replaces the PC, that's relatively cheap and suitable for a factory evironment.) We think the best machine to get is the new Sun-4/110, but management prefers Apollo to Sun. We solicit comparisons, both performance and environment. If you have used Common Lisp on Apollos and on Suns, then please let me know what the difference is. Thank you very much. (My personal opinion is that the best option will be Xerox's, when they finish migrating to Common Lisp and Sun-4's, but that's two or three years off.)
