[net.movies] Rear Window on TV

ansok@spp3.UUCP (Gary Ansok) (02/24/86)

'Rear Window' was shown on TV here in LA last week, and since it's
onbe of my favorites, I watched it again (I saw it during the theatrical
re-release recently). Several dream sequences were in the TV version
that were not in the theater version. These dream sequences took place
while Jimmy Stewart was asleep in his wheelchair. They appeared to
have been put together from footage copied from other scenes, spliced
together with the out-of-focus dream lens. I, for one, did not like
these scenes and thought the movie flowed better without them.

Does anyone know if these scenes were done by Hitchcock, or if they
were put together for the TV release to pad the movie out to 2.5 hours
including commercials (given the fact that no new scenes were involved,
the second seems likely). Was it just this one station, or was some
distributor involved?

Things would be so different,
If they were not as they are.

I have not seen RW on tv (yet) but I do remember the theater version.
No "dream sequences" per say. but there is the part when Jimmy Stuart is
watching out the window at night and (in a simi-dreaming state) remembers
some of what went on before in the movie.

This was used as a transition to show why he missed Raymond Bur leaving the
apartment.

Over all it is a super movie (especialy Grace) even if they did mangle it
for tv it is still worth going out of your way to see.
