i would like to hear some reaction to the announcement that micheal made statingthat he would give all the money he makes during this tour to charity? And some people thought he wanted all that money for himself. Well this should quieten down some of his critics.

Ah, but he hasn't decided which charity to give it to, yet. Besides, that's only HIS money. The promoters and the rest of the Jacksons will probably keep their bucks. I think it's marvelous, but I'm not amazingly impressed. If I had millions and millions of dollars (with more coming in every day) I wouldn't worry about giving a few million away to charity, either. Hell, I wouldn't miss it. -- "Farewell my summer bucks..." Peter Merchant

References: tekig.2157 I didn;'t think he had the authority to make a decision like this. For example, in his latest single release with one of his brothers (Jermaine) he expressly said that Arista could release the single but he was outvoted. It seems that the Jackson family votes on these things. Now, about his money. Considering what he makes, perhaps it will lower his tax liability, or he is approaching a negative marginal utility for more money. If it is indeed true that he is giving millions to charity, more power to him. It was really never him I object to; it is the management of him like a property rather than a human being. In my opinion, I think that MJ should tell the whole crew to blow, and take his millions and manage his own affairs. It is really assinine to have the entire mess of problems with the various promoters, especially when most of the venues have infinitely more experience with ticket sales, crowd control, and so on. Or is puttin on a NFL football game a trivial task compared to handling Michael Jackson 's concert? Humpy Wheeler should have had him at the Charlotte Motor speedway... dya

Most of Jackson's fans, the people responsible for all of his fame and fortune, are probably high schoolers who can't afford to shell out all those bucks for concert tickets, and they'd probably appreciate the chance to see him much more than most of the people who can afford the tickets. If Michael doesn't want the money for himself, he should give it back to the fans in the form of more reasonable ticket prices instead of to some unspecified charity. I have nothing against charities, but in this case I think the fans are more deserving. Jeff Richardson DCIEM, Toronto

Hmmmm... How about the Michael Jackson Foundation for androgeny (George O'Dowd as Chariman of the Board). Or the Brooke Shields Foundation for terminal eyebrows and bad acting. Save your money. I understand that they didn't even do one song from "Victory" (I always thought the purpose of touring after an album is released is to promote that album. Shows how much I know...), but then maybe that is no great loss either. Diane Wilkerson ..!hopd3!dvw

Am I correct in assuming that a megasum flopped in the lap of the Jehovah's Witnesses would be a "donation to charity"? They'll need it when there's only 144 of them in heaven or wher'ere they'll go. Anyway, JW gets a healthy bouncing 10% of Mr. Micheal's income anyway. Maybe they'll let him toss some peanuts to cancer research. How much did the promoters have to do with the high ticket prices? I have seen more people (20 years and up) dancing to music from the Thriller album at parties than any other music. I doubt if it's just high schoolers that enjoy his music, but I doubt if very many of these people at these parties would buy tickets for his show. Is it true with all the female hormones he's taken that he'll make Headlines in such astute publications as the Globe and National Enquirer as the first male(?) to give birth?

Sorry for the interuption, but I heard of an incident the other day... An announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies was complaining about the (baseball) team's poor fielding and said " You know, these Phillies remind me a lot of Micheal Jackson." The other announcer said " Oh? Why's that?" "Well you know how Micheal Jackson wears that glove on his left hand and it serves no purpose...." Bob Switzer AT&T Bell Labs

>i would like to hear some reaction to the announcement that micheal made stating >that he would give all the money he makes during this tour to charity? And >some people thought he wanted all that money for himself. Well this should >quieten down some of his critics. I doubt that it will "quieten down" (i.e., "quiet") many critics. A donation to charity, whether motivated by a desire for publicity or by genuine good will, will not add talent where it is lacking. ALso, it's a fair question whether this move may have been made necessary by the stink over the amount of money earned in interest on ticket purchase money held for a while. I'm not accusing, but it's certainly the case that the Jacksons are big business more than big music, and big business has its necessary politics. -- Dick Dunn {hao, ucbvax, allegra}!nbires!rcd (303)444-5710 x3086 ...Are you making this up as you go along?
