A friend and I have differing interpretations of the ending of SUPERMAN II, specifically the scene in which he kisses Lois, whereupon she swoons momentarily. Now, I never thought that he was doing anything then other than to say look, it's all right, just take it easy, I love you. On the other hand, my friend thought he was removing the memories of what had happened between them, since they were causing her such anguish. Obviously this makes a rather large difference as to the tone of the scene. Now, am I being unusually dense? Do most of you out there see it the way my friend does? Perhaps part of the reason I am so reluctant to read it that way is because it requires postulating another power that Supes posesses ad hoc, of which enough had been done in that movie already--the giant evaporating Saran Wrap 'S', the force beams, the teleportation, etc. ad nauseam. On a totally unrelated topic: I recently saw a movie on TV of which I missed the beginning credits and was wondering if Jayembee or anyone else could supply me with the title. I can supply a fair amount of information that I got from the end credits. It was made in the early seventies by people in several European countries (France, Spain, and Italy, I think). It presented an interesting look at the legendary Amazons, in view of when it was made. The main protagonists were Antiope, Queen of the Amazons, and Theseus. Final scene ends something like this: THESEUS: Ah, there's Phaedra. ANTIOPE (dangerously): And WHO is Phaedra? THESEUS: Er--my wife. ANTIOPE: Oh, is THAT all? I thought she was your lover! [Title: AND SO ANTIOPE AND THESEUS RODE OFF TO LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER . . .] [Title: . . . AND IF YOU BELIEVE THAT, YOU'LL BELIEVE ANYTHING.] In keeping with nettiquette, please MAIL all replies (about this movie, that is, not SUPERMAN II) to me and I'll post the consensus if there is a demand. Thanks. --pH /* * "Klono' tungsten TEETH and curving CARBALLOY CLAWS!!" */

Look at the was Lois acts towards Clark after she recovers from her swoon . . . she treats him just like she did BEFORE she found out he was Supes. Her ignorance of "what's been happening in the world" kind of clinches that, using some strange, mystic, Kryptonian power known only to him and the Salkinds, Supes wiped her memory of the previous few days' events. Oh well, nobody ever said the things were going to fit into the comic-books' continuity. Good movie anyway, in my opinion. .rne. ----- Ernie Longmire {{ purdue cmcl2 ihnp4 } !lanl ucbvax } !unmvax!unmc!ma3166ay ----- "I'm looking for my pipe bomb...I left it here a while ago and now it's gone."

Superman was clearly erasing from Lois's mind the memory of anything that went on between the hijacking of the Eiffel tower and the end of the movie. Notice how Lois says "what's going on in the world?" Yes, this is one of superman's unexpected, new (i.e. just to help the plot along) superpowers, as was his ability to turn time back at the end of S. One. (Why, I only need cirle the earth opposite its spin at super-fast speeds and time will just naturally turn back, we all know that!) Marc D.
