I'm trying to build akcl with gcc, on the grounds that it may be better than Sun cc and in particular it may be able to compile things without using >= 30 Mb of temp files for (some) tiny lisp files. Versions: akcl 1.492 from cli.com (dated Aug 20 1990) gcc 1.37.1 gcc command line "gcc -fwritable-strings -static \ -DVOL=volatile -I$(AKCLDIR)/o" SunOS 4.0.3 on a Sun4/65 What happens: The furthest I've got it is to make a saved_kcl with a lot of interpreted code in it. It then starts recompiling itself, and dies claiming that BODY is unbound in C1BODY while trying to compile arraylib.lsp. Running it interactively and looking at the local variables seems to indicate that BODY is in fact bound. I tried to compile some trivial code of mine & it succeeds. This is the same error (but in a different place) that the first version (1.122 -- what we had) that I tried suffered from. This is the first time I've tried to build kcl, so I may have missed something important. Has anyone succeeded in doing this? is it even likely to work & will I gain anything if I do?
