[comp.lang.c++] Obtaining C++

ramin@scampi.UUCP (03/26/87)

Could someone send information as to how C++ could be obtained
(in source, if available). AT&T customer service has not been
terribly informative, and the Oasys version is prohibitively expensive.

The systems that would eventually need C++ are: HP Spectrum running HPUX,
Sun 3.0, VAX (VMS, Ultrix), PC (Xenix, MS-DOS), and possibly an AT&T 3B.

I would appreciate any information on porting efforts, and other licensing
that one needs to worry about. If anything, a phone number for a licensing
department would suffice but more information would be gladly summarized
back to the net for others. (mail is checked much more often than news)

thanks much

ramin

People are still having problems finding someone that can sell them C++,
so here are the addresses (sorry for repeating myself):

		AT&T Software Sales and Marketing

			Post Office Box 25000

		Greensboro, North Carolina 27420

		(800) 828-UNIX or (919) 279-3666)

This address and phone number can also be found in the footnote on page 2
of the C++ book.

Or
		AT&T Unix Pacific Co.,Ltd.

		Nippon Press Center Bldg.

		2-2-1, Uchisaiwai-cho

		Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100 Japan

Or

		AT&T Unix Europe Ltd.
		International House
		Ealing Broadway
		London
		W5 5DB

		Tel +44 1 567 7711
		EUnet: mcvax!ukc!uel!uel.

They charge universities $250 others $2K. Re-orders $250 and $400 respectively.

Release 1.2 is primarily a bug-fix release. The changes are not dramatic.
The most noteable changes are internal changes to ease porting.
It is still best to bring C++ up on a VAX running SysV or BSD or a 3B before
porting to something else - it is however feasible to bring 1.2 up on a
different system directly if the ``different system'' is not too different
from a VAX running UNIX and if you are willing to spend a day or two on the
exercise.
