[net.sf-lovers] Computer Help Needed

marcw@sri-unix (08/31/82)

As many of you may already know, "WESTERCON", the larg-
est west coast regional science fiction convention, will be
held in Portland, Oregon during the 1984 July 4th weekend.
In order to handle registration and program scheduling, the
convention planners are looking for access to a computer or
group of compatible computers, software and people to sup-
port them.

The area that would benefit most from computerization
is registration. It is necessary to keep track of authors,
artists and other guests, dealers and pre-registered members
as well as those who register at the convention. Another
task that would lend itself to automation is scheduling the
various events and (hopefully) providing an electronic bul-
letin board to augment the program book.

Since the convention is held under the auspices of Ore-
gon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc., a non-profit tax-
exempt corporation, all donations in the form of equipment
and/or professional services (we're far too poor to pay for
much of anything) are tax deductible. If you have or know
of some one who has a computer system (even a very small
one) they would be willing to loan the use of during the
convention, or if you would be willing to do some program
development and maintenance, please let us know. Contact me

The convention will be held at Portland's new Marriot
Hotel, June 29 through July 3, 1984. Harlan Ellison will be
the guest of honor and Ed Bryant will be the toastmaster.
Many other authors and SF professionals (possibly including
Ursula LeGuin) will attend.

				Marc Wells
