A couple years ago I read the book The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. I thought it was a masterpiece of one-book sf/fantasy sagas. Well, this week I was walking by the local book store when I saw The Elfstones of Shannara (by the same author), obviously a sequel. Has anyone read this second work of the Shannara series? Is it as good as the first?

I just finished The Elfstones of Shannara. I found it a bore compared with his first book. His characterizations were weak and the plot was also lacking in depth. I think he'd have been much wiser to have brought the original cast of characters back in the sequel, instead of moving the time frame foreward. However, it's still worth putting on your shelf. Steve

I thought the first book was a pretty blatant ripoff of Tolkien. Also thought that people walked MUCH too fast. Either that, or the whole place was only about a hundred miles across. =Spencer
