[comp.lang.c++] C++ is too complex!!!

jans@tekgvs.GVS.TEK.COM (Jan Steinman) (11/03/88)

<David Smyth and apparently one or two other people on the net seem to think
that C++ is too complex. Compared to what? My suggestion to these people is
to try to learn Russian (2 forms of all verbs, 100 forms of all motion verbs,
6 declension cases etc. etc.). Afterwards, the marvelous simplicity of C++
shall be apparent to them.>

If computers understood Russian, I would gladly learn it rather than use C++
(1/2 :-)! Let's compare apples to oranges, here! Give me a computer that is
capable of dealing with the marvelous range of expression inherent in natural
language, and I'll even forsake Smalltalk.

(How do you say, "I want the window here, and I want it to display the P/E
ratio of the top 50 NASDAQ stocks in a scatter-plot" in Russian?)

Ya khochu okno tut, yi I khochu pokazat <P/E ratio> visshikh pyatdesat NASDAQ
<stocks> v <scatter-plot>.

But seriously, folks, one nice thing about Russian is that the order of the
words in a simple sentence can be permuted and the sentence will still remain
grammatically correct - the meaning of the sentence changes subtly. You
wouldn't want this sort of behaviour in a programming language. (Or would you?).
