Just read the above book this last weekend, and found it to be good. Probably not great, but good. A very reasonable sequel to the MOVIE version: explanations of HAL's behavior, some insight on the Star Person, and ... Well, I suggest y'all read it. I'd like to see other comments, but I think this is good SF, and certainly an order of magnitude better than Foundations Ragged Edges Any others feel this way? Different? Of the last three books, the prior mentioned and Friday, by RAH, this is the only one I've liked, at all. Seems only ACC has kept= his sense of what SF is. Asimov did it for the $$, and why RAH did it, I don't know. Certainly was not a story, just a series of vignettes. --Arlan Andrews, Indy

My problem with 2010, was that it added almost NOTHING to the story. We get a half-hearted reason for HAL's insanity, and a couple of interesting versions of non-earth life, but not much else. At least Friday was a "new" novel (yes, I know about Gulf), and Foundation's Edge covered a different time and characters. While I found 2010 a pleasent read (like almost all Clarke), in a month I will have forgotten almost the entire thing. Joe
