Seeing as how one of my favorite subjects (the identity of the other) has once broached the net.sf-lovers community, I hasten to do my part: 1) According to Gary Kurtz (I think it was Gary Kurtz) at Chicon, no new characters are being introduced in Revenge of the Jedi. This means that the Other must be an existing character (but see below). 2) In this rather protracted and pointless debate, we have been assuming that the other hope was a person. Perhaps it is an event, or a trend. Yoda sees into the future somewhat. It is not inconceivable that the other hope was that Vader and the Emperor and perhaps Luke would finish each other off; or that conditions might be right for Yoda's own involvement in the history of the Jedi conflict. 3) What is Yoda doing on a desolate planet off in nowhere? Hiding? from what? Waiting? for what? Vader, at least, seems completely unaware of his existence; yet surely he is more of a threat to Vader than Obi-wan was. I have the feeling that Yoda chooses to be as he is, and that his true nature lies hidden. 4) Gary Kurtz (or whoever) revealed a lot of stuff at Chicon, some of which is definitely classified ***** SPOILER *****. Having re-joined net.sf-lovers only recently, I am unaware of the previous submissions in this area; therefore I will not say more. Alexis Layton alex @ CCA-UNIX decvax!csin!alex
