In a recent posting, I inquired whether anyone knew of a version of C++ for the Mac II (NOT for A/UX !). Here is the drift of the replies I received : There are presently no C++ compilers for the Macintosh (except under A/UX). In the "very near future", you may expect : 1) Apple is "very close" to releasing a beta compiler through APDA that will work with MacApp (2.0 extended to work with Object Pascal objects; everything inheriting from class Object use the Object Pascal message passing scheme). This compiler will, naturally, run under MPW so it will be verry sllooow. 2) Glockenspiel will release a C++ compiler "by the first week of December" (according to the company founder). CommonView for the Macintosh will released at the same time. MPW was not mentioned, although it seems likely. 3) THINK/Symantec (of LightspeedC fame) are working on an extended C++ compiler. Absolutely no offical details, although presumably it will a "true" compiler, be very fast, and also work with MacApp. Of course G++ will never (officially) support the Mac. Thanks to all those who responded, especially to Brian McElhinney, whose message is reproduced above. Gilad

The press release does not mention C++ or MacApp, however. (It does mention that they provide their own object library with the compiler. My guess would be that they have only implemented the subset of C++ that implements objects.) Larry Rosenstein, Apple Computer, Inc.
