[comp.lang.c++] gcc/g++ vs. native cc on R2000

While this is not exactly a c++ question, can anyone comment on the
quality of code produced by gcc/g++ compiler for the R2000 when
compared to the C compiler from MIPS itself?
The MIPS compiler is very good and it would be interesting to know
how close gcc comes to this.
