[comp.lang.c++] Patch 2.0 version with HP-UX 800?

deb@svax.cs.cornell.edu (David Baraff) (10/03/89)

Can anyone tell me -- can a patch version of the
2.0 translator be built for HP-UX 800 systems?
(I don't have the 2.0 tape quite yet).
Link editing a 1.5 Mb executable *twice* on every
compile is not a thrilling experience. The Release Notes
say that BSD systems can have the patch version, but I was
not sure whether HP-UX for the 800's is sufficiently
BSD'ish to do it. Anybody know one way or the other?

	Thanks,

The main sticking point is the patch tool itself. You may have to do a
complete rewrite of the patch tool to read the 800 object file format
(which is totally different from anything that you have seen on BSD
systems).
