From: Mike Meyer <mwm at OKC-UNIX> Yes, there are those of us out here who liked TITAN/WIZARD. I'm one. They aren't as good as Varleys short stories - but then again, how many authors write novels that are as good as (or better than) their short stories? Especially when they deal with abstractions in the manner of Varley/Ellison? As for the attack on SF in Harpers - Yuch. This guy sounds like he's been reading to much Space Opera and `best-selling' sf. Maybe we ought to find out how many of the things on the various suggested readings list he's read... <mike

I like some of Varley's stories, but I found TITAN/WIZARD awful. I'm not upset that I bought them, though since they afforded my friends and me quite a few good laughs. Speaking of laughable, I recently read Heinliens NUMBER OF THE BEAST. -Ronen
