Prepare for more SW trivia, Star Trek, and other TV shows...

Stormtrooper armor does not seem to be all that effective, but recall that
the rebels (being much poorer than the Empire) have no armor at all, save
for helmets which look very similar to those used in the Death Star weapons
room. The armor looks to be a multi-piece, flexible suit designed to be
fairly comfortable, likely at a cost of added protection. Its use as just
a psychological tactic, as suggested by another person, is not unlikely.

Thanks to the person who submitted Lucas's synopsis of the SW series as
printed in TIME. Hopefully this will eliminate a lot of bickering/questions
(for those who read it).

If anybody is REALLY into trivia out there, are you interested in exchanging
notes on how the imperial ranks are set up (those little rectangular blue,
amber, and red pieces on the imperial uniforms)?

This is probably just an aspect of Luke's character, but he speaks about
his readiness in both SW4 and SW5 -- in the former, it is just before he
enters the Mos Eisley cantina ("I'm ready for anything"), and the latter
is inside Yoda's house (don't remember the quote, but Yoda replies, "What
know you of ready?").

An ironic twist is just before Luke sells his landspeeder in SW4 he says
to Ben, "That's okay. I'm never coming back to this place anyway." The
alliance is, of course, regrouping on Tatooine. On that note, in the SW6
previews, Lando is apparently doing battle with a Tusken Raider, is he
not?

A catch line I have heard I don't know how many times in the SW films is
"I have a very bad feeling about this." A couple of instances are as the
Millenium Falcon is approaching the Death Star for the first time (spoken
by Luke), and Leia leaving the MF in SW5 when they are in the belly (or
whatever) of the space slug.

Why does Luke throw away the food stick which he wouldn't let Yoda eat?
Yoda already munched on it a bit, and Luke doesn't know what kind of nasty
germs Yoda might have! Another "answer" to that same group of questions:
R2D2 is NEVER shown ascending or descending stairs! We know he must be
able to do this though, to get some of the places he's gone (such as getting
out of the machine shop at Owen's place in SW4).

When Luke goes down in the cave in SW5, Vader's image already has his saber
"drawn;" I imagine the effect of a saber being drawn (as with Obi-wan in SW4)
is an expensive effect.

Another "answer" to an old question group: I believe that Han and Chewie
approached by Tauntaun to be less conspicuous (i.e., than using a snowspeeder),
since they are trying to give the Empire as little info as possible about
their equipment. I don't doubt the capabilities of those Imperial probots,
anyway.

Away from the SW series, people really ought to give Wm. Shatner a break, and
let him work a bit on shaking off the Capt. Kirk image. Recall that George
Reeves (of TV "Superman" fame) committed suicide because he couldn't break
out of his role. I say this with a touch of tongue in cheek.

About "The City on the Edge of Forever:" the display of the past stops almost
immediately after McCoy jumps into it. When the Guardian is queried about where
McCoy has gone, he replies, "He has passed into...what was." When Uhura is
unable to reach the Enterprise by communicator, the Guardian states, "Your
vessel, your beginning, all that you knew...is gone."

A guide to "Lost in Space" episodes may again be found in FANTASTIC TELEVISION
by G. Gerani, along with many other Irwin Allen series. Regarding "The
Invaders" series, I seem to rememeber that many times Vincent comes very, very
close to having some people convinced (such as in the episode with Russel
Johnson which has a courtroom scene, and the episode where Vincent gets his
hands on an x-ray of an alien in human form). Toward the end of the series,
Vincent found a group (or founded?) of "believers," people who were knowing
of the aliens' presence. This group was led by a man named Kent (?).

I think it is appropriate that a COMICS-LOVERS digest is being formed; it
will allow people to "flame on" about Johnny Torch.

If I've forgotten to say anything, you'll be hearing from me...

John
