What is the name of this group? Does SF mean science fiction, or do some of you intend that it mean only what you yourself like to read or watch? I've read science fiction when the term "sci fi" was acceptable. I still accept it, as well as "SF." It is merely the media people who try to convince you "sci fi" is demeaning. So what is "science fiction?" Usually, fiction with science as one of its props. That would mean "Tron" is SF while "Dark Crystal" is Fantasy. Folks, that also means that "Star Wars" IS SF, whether some of you like it or not. And if this is a science fiction group, then this is where the discussion belongs. Listen folks, I like mild SF and I like hard core scientific SF, but I can really only find two categories for fiction. One is to inform or cause me to think deeply about science and the future (documentary class) and the other is to entertain me or take me out of this world for a couple hours (entertainment class). Some of you folks who flame hardest at the Star Wars lovers, then build up your own special interest as "pure SF" better take a harder look at the faults of your own favorites - they aren't so pure either. Let's face it, we ALL go to these movies for entertainment. If you want only the facts, go read a Sagan book (there's billions and billions). For people who have to put it down (Harpers, Bova, et al), go suck an egg! Star Wars, Trek, whatever is where the POWER is (read that as M O N E Y).
