[comp.lang.c++] Best Reference Book For C++?

"Transient" depends I suppose on when one bought one's "The C++ Programming
Language" -- for many years this was the only C++ book, and one was 
damned thankful for it!  And I'm sure it will be a standard first text
again once Stroustrup updates it.

If you want to know the fine-grained details of the language, then the
ARM is the thing to get.  One should know Lippman well before exposing 
oneself to the ARM however -- it is not an introductory text!

How long until the ARM is hopelessly out of date depends on what the
ANSIfication committee does, and when.  My bet is that the ARM is worth
buying....
