[comp.lang.c++] C++ and databasing...

tron1@tronsbox.xei.com (Kenneth Jamieson) (01/10/91)

	I have been taking a "fresh" look at my old libraries now that
I am a C++ user, and would like some opinions.

	Taking a fresh start on the problem, how do the class abilities
of C++ enhance the standard problem of database access?

	In other words, what would the features of a OO database lib
be ? What form would the take ???

	I think some are obvious...

	1) The database should be ONE object at its base level. That
object will manage the indexes and so on. It should construct and
desctruct like a FSTREAM.

	2) The interface to the dbo (database object) can be set up in
a few ways, one would be with exclusive use of the >> and << operators
with manipulators to make changes to dbo operation...

	3) The dbo should allow the storage of both "dumb" arrays, or
"ogjects" that prpovide member functions that could be told to write
themselves to a stream and read , as well as provide their key values.

	Any ideas or is this a silly thought ???
