l. ron hubbard broke (?) his silence with a newspaper interview, more or less in the feb. 20 Rocky Mtn. News; in it he (metaphorically) shakes his head at some of scientology's excesses, and to me, comes off as one of those good old crazy guys that writes pretty good sf. he enclosed a handwritten note to prove his still-alive state; he says that he wrote battlefield earth as a sort of present to himself, to celebrate 50 years of writing, in the sf genre because it's fun! i may read it myself if it ever hits paper. ernie harkins
