[net.sf-lovers] New Dr. Who series is coming

I recall seeing a question a few weeks ago concerning when the new
series of Dr. Who would appear in this country. I was watching KTEH San
Jose last night, and during a fundraising break, the hosts mentioned that
they would be receiving the new series either late this year or early next
year, and that the new Dr. Who would be Peter Davison (late of All creatures
great and small).

The new Doctor Who is indeed Peter Davison. Davison played Tristan on
"All Creatures Great and Small" and (at least according to the credits)
Dish of the Day on "Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy". So far, he's
pretty good. We've seen the first two Davison stories here in North
Carolina (Nyah-nyah) and the Center for Public Television has all of
his first year so we'll see them here. They've also acquired all of the
John Pertwee adventures, which they say they'll start showing in May
or June. And they promise to have the 20th anniversary show on around
January. The Dr. Who fans have a wonderful relationship with public
television in this area; we pay them and they show Dr. Who.

It appears that Public Television in North Carolina is somewhat
ahead of us here in the Bay area. Out PBS station won't have
the new series until next year. While I envy you getting the
new series so soon, you're welcome to the Jon Pertwee series.
For my money he was the worst Dr. Who.

I have been watching Dr. Who since the first epsiode (which I
can still remember) in November 1963. I still think the first
Doctor (William Hartnell) was the best. I was home in England
at Christmas and saw 2 episodes with Peter Davison. I thought
he was quite good. With a little more experience in the role I
think he will develop into a very good Doctor. His character
draws heavily on 2 earlier Doctors: #2 Patrick Troughton and #4
Tom Baker. He draws especially on #2.

I saw Peter Davison as the Dr. on the last show Tom Baker
did -- he fell off of a radar dish on Earth and regenerated
as Tristan Farnon from All Creatures Great and Small.
