In response to your message of Tue Mar 15 11:25:56 1983: You're a little off in your Doc Smith publishing history. It looks like you've merged the second and third books (going by series order rather than publication date) in the Lensman series. The first Lensman story to be published was #3 (of 6), GALACTIC PATROL, which did appear around 1937 (and excited some controversy---there were a lot of hard-core Doc Smith fans who wanted more Skylark stories and to !@#*! with the new storyline). If you have the stomach to read them all together this order is obvious, since much of the history of the universe (as explained in TRIPLANETARY) doesn't appear at all in GALACTIC PATROL and GRAY LENSMAN.
