Haven't seen any other mention of this, so thought I'd spread the word; I wish I had known about it earlier myself. I just discovered by accident that the second edition of Harbison and Steele's "C: A Reference Manual" is now out in the stands! Unfortunately, it also seems to be out of stock -- the first 4 bookstores I tried had completely run out of their initial orders (they seemed quite bemused by its popularity), and all had additional shipments on the way. I did manage to find one place (would you believe the Stanford campus bookstore??) that still had a handful left, and grabbed one. It's much heftier, costs $25, and the back cover blurb claims it includes a description of the draft ANSI C language. I haven't looked at it yet, but am confident that it will be the definitive reference for C until the ANSI draft becomes a standard (which may not be for a while). --Ken -------
