Greetings, I thought I sent this out a couple weeks ago, but I didn't even see it come reflected back to this mailing list... If you've seen this before, then I apologize for pounding on this list, but we really would like to get information about this... The Merit Computer Network is looking for a "C" compiler for PDP-11 architecture machines that could be used with it's current programming environment (a non-Unix, cross-assembled environment.) I have heard that the "C" compiler that comes with some variety of PDP-11 Unix (I was told, but forgot) might be suitable, but I would like to know about more options, if any. Our present environment involves assembling, linking, and loading complete system immages from a system called MTS, which has a C compiler of it's own (one radically revised version of C-Bell for IBM systems to make it more ANSI standard, and generally functional.) It would be best for us if we could (somehow) get the compiler to produce object file formats that we use, but recognizing the difficulty of this, a compiler that just produces op codes from the DEC PDP-11 handbook would suffice. (That would allow us to use our own assemblers and familiar object file format.) As one of my previous sentances implied, it would be best if we could get source for this compiler, but since we have a some Sun workstations, using binaries for the Sun is a possibility. (That would definitely not be a permanent solution though!) I do watch the "Info-C" and "Info-Unix" mailing lists, but if you'd rather not post things back here, you can send suggestions to me at: ARPA/Internet: Richard_Conto@um.cc.umich.edu or rsc@umix.cc.umich.edu U.S.Mail: Richard Conto Merit Computer Network 5112 IST 2200 Bonisteel Bvld. If you'd like a summary, I'm willing to provide one, but this is a rather rare request... how many people can be doing cross-development for PDP11s anyway?
