A followup to my posting about the flakey arithmetic: I just ran the program on a MicroVAX running Ultrix, and the subtraction was performed correctly. So the status is: MicroVAX/4.3BSD: bad MicroVAX/Ultrix: good VAX 780: good Could it be the C compiler? -- Jeff Percival (jwp@salvax1)

( Article from Jeff Percival (jwp@salvax1) about incorrect ) ( floating point results on a Microvax running 4.3 BSD UNIX ) Our microvaxes do not have the problem; they run 4.3BSD unix. There were some bugs in the emulation code in the original 4.3 release, and a patch was posted a while back to fix the problem. I suspect you need to get a hold of that patch and apply it. I can send a copy of the patch to people needing it. -Larry Parmelee parmelee@wayback.cs.cornell.edu parmelee@cornell.uucp parmelee@crnlcs.bitnet
