Does anyone remember the musical adaptation of "War of the Worlds" that came out a few years ago? How about "Intergalactic Touring Band"? That one was a real strange attempt at actual science fiction as perceived by ex-rock-and-roll stars like Carol King and so forth. It almost worked. Not quite. Very cutesy. Then there's Bowie...sort of. He's more into metaphor than actual SF, of course. How about every funk album for two years after Parliament/Funkadelic and Dr. Funkenstein hit the scene? Remember all those women in silver "space suits" with tremendous ND ("nipple definition") and those matte painted thirties art deco space cities in the background, on the album covers? I remember the words from one funk tune--"OOOOoooooh baby! How do they DO IT on YOUR PLANET?" Does this count? Or should I put all this schlock in the same category I stick farcicial attempts at culturally outmoded "science fiction" like Lucasfilms productions? Richard Moorman ...ucbvax!fantods@topaz
