[comp.lang.c] Fussin....

bilbo.dana@CS.UCLA.EDU (Dana Myers) (09/28/87)

Well last week I was sittin over the store when Vern sez "Lookee here,
were gettin some more of that exciting and interesting Unix e-mail on
my PC". Now Vern is got an PC-AT clone which he uses for keeping the books
on his shine business and even though his "Visi-Shine" program only runs
under DOS Vern ain't no fool and can the future wave so he runs Unix on
computer under Unix as a task.... Vern is lookin forward to the day when
he can get a 386 computer so he can run "Multi-Visi-Shine" and, well, this
is off the subject.....

So Vern is saying this about e-mail... seems some folks are gettin all
upset about changing the see programming language to make it standard. So,
can you imagine that?? Changing see ?? Well, I'm looking at this mail where
one fella is all in a serious uproar since he found some problem in the
proposed standard for the see language that he can't see no solution for
and so he sends a major complaint off to one of the guys working on the
standard and makes a whole of noise. If you ask me, a man that ain't even
from this Earth here ain't got too much a right to fuss with a good old
fashioned Earth born man - hell, American born man at that. Vern is getting
a real guffaw outta this when he suggests we ought to mount an expidition
on over to Xanth and disconnect the network node to Xanth so this here man
from Xanth doesn't have to read anymore of the annoying mail about the see
standard and that'd save him a spell of heartache. I told Vern he was
always too understanding about these things but that maybe he was right
with a little exception, maybe we could cut Xanth off but that would save
one little Xanthan from causing a whole mess of Earthlings a pile of heart-
ache. Vern mighta thought this too but he is so diplomatic he wouldn't admit
it even if you lashed him up to a team of horses, this could be why runs the
store and I just whittle things on the front porch but I always thought its
better to tell the truth than beat around the bush.

Well, now, the hearse just pulled in and I gotta load up some more shine
so I really don't have anymore time to be flappin my gums but maybe we could
ship a jar or two of Earth-shine on over to Xanth and this might have a
right desirable sedative effect......

( The above piece is fiction. Any similarity between the characters mentioned
and any Earthlings or even Americans is probably an accident... but if the
shoe fits ;-)
