[It appears net.movies.sw is dead, so sorry bout this...] Do light sabres have settings for varying degrees of effect (like StarTrek phasors), or don't they (Luke) make 'em like they useta? In ROTJ's swordfight, whenever Luke missed & hit the railing, his sabre just went "clang" and stopped. When he fought Jabba's guards in the desert, his blows just knocked them over. Yet, in TESB, he sliced open the bottom of a Walker with his old (formerly DV's) sabre, and when battling Vader under the Cloud City the wild swings were chopping hell out of posts, wires, etc. And in ROTJ, when Vader threw his sabre at Luke it cut down the catwalk. Soooooo, is there any coherence behind all this, or is just whatever the director wanted at the moment? I was surprised LUke's sabre didn't cut Jabba's men in half (but not too disappointed, what with all that greasy popcorn in my tummy). I was impressed that Luke could fend off laser blasts with his new sabre, tho (did anyone ever do that before?) Well, I guess LUke's gonna have to make himself yet another one... can't get a good Japanese model since Yoda expired. mike k
