The International Standards Organization (ISO) and International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have established
working groups (WG) on both the C programming language and POSIX
under Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC1) Subcommittee 22 (SC22).
These are designated as ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG14 and ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG15
respectively.
The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is a member of the ISO and
has a committee, the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC), to formulate
Canada's positions on ISO issues. In particular there is a subcommittee
designated SCC/CAC ISO/IEC JTEC1/SC22 to formulate Canada's position
on SC22 issues.
This subcommittee has established working groups to formulate the
Canadian position on C and POSIX. Tom Kelly of HCR Corporation
been appointed convener of (Canadian) WG14 and Richard Sniderman of HCR
Corporation has been appointed convener of (Canadian) WG15.
Concerted efforts are being made to ensure that ANSI and ISO
will arrive at a common standard for C, and that IEEE (eventually
ANSI) and ISO will arrive at a common standard for POSIX.
The balloting and resolution process among these various bodies
is being coordinated.
The immediate issue is that Canada must cast letter ballots to the ISO
on both C and POSIX early in 1988. To that end,
this is to announce a meeting of the 2 Canadian working groups.

an international standard for C (DP 9899), document
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 N413. This document is the same as the May 15 1987
working draft of ANSI X3J11. The DP 9899 balloting period will end
January 8 1988.

an international standard for POSIX (DP 9945), document
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 N426. This document is the same as IEEE P1003.1
Draft 12. The DP 9945 balloting period will end February 26 1988.
