          Incidentally, the short story that "The Cornfield" was based
     on is very good.  Anyone remember the title/author?

The story is called "It's a Good Life" (and I think it's by Jerome
Bixby -- but I'm not sure).  Yes, it's a really great short story
(though they really messed it up in the TZ movie) and can be found in
many collections of classic SF short stories.
