First: someone (title "Husker Du's and don'ts") cut down K.Bush because her lyrics ranged from "obscure to pretentious". But I LIKE obscure and pretentious lyrics the best of all! Even good thrash music gets pretty obscure/pretentious at its best, especially the way they mumble into the mike. Don't you think Millions of Dead Cops is a bit pretentious (I like them)? Second: the Henry Cow legacy. Old albums include those by Henry Cow and Slapp Happy, Peter Blegvad, and then the Art Bears. The extended family is pursued in Fred Frith albums, Fred Frith/Henry Kaiser, Frith/Chris Cutler, other Frith things like Material, Massacre, Golden Palominos first album, John Greaves solo, Lindsay Cooper solo, David Thomas & the Pedestrians (which was just him and Chris Cutler and Lindsay Cooper when they toured), Tower of Babel (a relatively new band with Cutler and Cooper), and other projects released on Chris Cutler's own record label, the name of which escapes me. Help? Did I miss a few names? Didn't some of the horn players off the first (the white with colored sock) album also play with Hatfield and the North, or National Health? Also, I heard that Chris Cutler will be the drummer for some new band including several yawners like Eric Clapton, I can't remember exactly, but they were supposed to record and tour soon. Maybe I'm mixing this up with another thing I heard about Clapton and George Harrison playing with Carl Perkins. Why do people say they like Clapton? He was OK with Cream but intolerable ever after. ckk@g.cs.cmu.EDU
