Is anyone using the DSP56000 for applications other than signal processing? Motorola supposedly has a C compiler for the beast. Is there anything that looks like an operating system for the thing? We're looking at it as a controller for a mobile robot. I never thought I'd see a 24-bit word machine again. John Nagle

I went to a public Motorola presentation yesterday (mostly about the M88000-Risc set), and they told us that there was available *now* a C compliler for the DSP56000; I wrote down its product number as 'DSP56KCC' and I was quoted a price of 500pounds for the version to run on a PC. I was also told there a versions for VAX-VMS, MAC-2's, and (I think) SUN's. No doubt the USA domestic price will be $500 even though the current exchange rate is about $1.80! Motorola also stated that the same tools will be available for the DSP96000; whether this is just because they are code compatible or whether it will use the extra features in the DSP96000, he did not say. I hope this helps. Brian Woodroffe. Queensferry Telecomms Division - Hewlett Packard. The above facts are not necessarily the views of my employer.
