[comp.lang.c] -M option to cc

roy@phri.UUCP (Roy Smith) (09/05/88)

I've got a fairly large software package, with many makefiles that
depend on "cc -M" to create the dependency graphs. I'd like this to be
portable to as many other systems as possible. My question is, how common
is "cc -M"? I know BSD4.3 has it, as do SunOS and Ultrix. What about
System-5 and other flavors?

If it turns out that expecting virtually everybody to have "cc -M"
or the equivalent is unreasonable, is there a public-domain program that I
could distribute along with my code which would do the same thing?
